John Shoemaker holds a B.A. from Pacific Lutheran University and an M.A. from Western Washington University. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky after completing his doctoral research at the University of Copenhagen as a Marshall Scholar.

John has taught courses in project management, public administration, quality management systems, statistics, research methodology, and marketing research at a number of colleges and universities, including Kansas State University and the University of Kansas.

Since leaving full-time academic employment, he has held a number of positions in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. For 10 years he served as the Director of the Kansas Center for Performance Improvement, an affiliate of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program. He is currently an associate faculty member in the MBA program at City University of Seattle. He has also worked at CETYS Universidad in Baja California, Mexico, and the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China, where he taught project management.

John has extensive practical experience in project management. For over 20 years, he managed projects in the advertising, marketing, and marketing research industries. He also worked as a corporate trainer for over 15 years. In this capacity, he conducted more than 200 project management seminars throughout the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. His client list includes many of the Fortune 500 companies.

In addition to project management seminars, he does contract project management, project management consulting, and Merlin-based project management software training and consulting.

He has been a senior member of the American Society for Quality and the Project Management Institute and is retired from the Kansas Air National Guard. He lives in Gig Harbor, Washington.
